FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT ? SURE . BUT WHAT ABOUT A 8.5% GST AFTER THAT?
Which side you are on?

Transport Minister Raymond Lim pointed out that if the government offers fully subsidized public transportation for the people of Singapore, citizens would have to live with an increase of 1.5% of GST, bringing up total to 8.5%.
The Transport Ministry’s premier further commented that even if things go really bad in terms of the economy, and that the government then pays for the public transportation, the people of Singapore would still be the ones who will pay for it eventually (via tax) since it takes S$ 1.2 billion to run both bus and trains system yearly.
Mr. Lim also explained that the world oil prices does not dictate the cost of operating the entire system, instead it is linked to inflation level as well as the wage level in the whole of Singapore.
sleepy: paying 8.5% GST for a meal is much more expensive than paying for public transport. CRAPS !
